Mari Torteli

My name is Mari. It's not my idea to tell my life here, because like all lives, it has ups and downs.

What matters is why I chose to embark on this Bora journey and what events make me confident that I can offer a service very focused on what has always been most important to me: my children. I have so often put myself in the shoes of my friends' dear parents who said goodbye on the first day of school with that sinking feeling in their hearts that "Did I do the right thing? Who will take care of my child? What if my daughter is robbed? If someone I get sick, what do I do? Is she happy? Is he friends? And how is school?" As we were lucky enough to bring the boys' friends with us, I ended up being "responsible" for them. And I learned so much... (he forgets his vaccinations, he doesn't enroll in the right subject, he forgets to buy bedding, he falls off his scooter, he gets caught drunk before he turns 21, he breaks his back doing sports, he has mononucleosis, he wants to go home, needs help to buy the pink bicycle, has no one to spend the holiday with, needs a job, misses all deadlines... ), there were so many fun situations and moments, of tension, of laughter, of tears... that I Several times I thought I would go crazy if I was far away. Apart from the conversations I had with several parents who became friends, about the admission process for their sons and daughters... I still don't understand why some companies make it seem so difficult, so inaccessible and therefore too expensive. My goal is to use everything I learned, experienced, felt as a mother, aunt, godmother, friend; be transparent with everyone saying what works and what doesn't work. Myths and truths and secrets that help a lot.

So, I decided to leave my career in the Finance and People area and start helping to bring more and more people to study abroad and diversify the knowledge of the generation that is coming... I called Denise to be my partner, due to her huge experience in English, exchange and learning. My biggest advertisement are these wonderful adult children who wanted to write these messages about what I've been doing... I hope you'll be another one to see me from the podium on your graduation day!!

All the best to you always,

Mari

My name is Denise, but you can call me Dé.

My most distinguishing feature? I like People. To be close, to know them, to laugh and learn from them!

I am the mother of a couple of grown-up children, aged 23 and 30. They are the best and most beloved part of my life. Each one in their own way. He is nearby, in São Paulo, a graduated architect, who is courageous enough to star working in the technology area, and proudly, he's rocking it., . She is far away, living in Doha and studying at Northwestern University – Qatar. Yes, I'm immensely happy for what my children accomplished, and I want all mothers to feel that they did everything they could to be happy as I am.

Living the experience of having a daughter living on the other side of the world is not easy. But it fills me with pride to see how much she grows each semester, with each project she develops there. And this learning, this experience, makes me want to contribute even more to the expansion of our company. Bora... and all the services we offer, expands the possibilities and opportunities for something I've always wanted to do professionally, helping people.

I graduated in Occupational Therapy and worked in the field for around 7 years, including providing training for special education teachers.

In the early 90s, already married and with a young son, an opportunity arose to work in the United States as an OT. She had studied English here in Brazil as a teenager (for 6 years, traditional method) but without much contact with the language, especially speaking and listening, during her college years.

Before obtaining the necessary certification to apply for this opportunity, I went back to studying. Of course, back then, we didn't have access to the resources we have today. And, while I was preparing, I went to work as an English instructor at a language franchise unit.

It was then that I realized my “fear of saying something wrong, of exposing myself”. As much as I knew the grammar, and I knew it well, without practice or contact with the language, I found myself insecure.

I learned a lot teaching! It's an incredible experience. Little by little, I grew and took on coordination and pedagogical direction of the unit, which had around 1000 students and 35 teachers.

For family reasons, I didn't go abroad to work. But I don't regret it one bit. Or maybe, a little. Since the experience of living abroad would have been very special.

But, staying in Brazil also allowed me to grow, learn and delve deeper into the world of Education. As my former franchisee would say, I specialized in teaching those who teach. I completed a postgraduate degree in Pedagogical Psychodrama, developed training for teachers and, since then, I have been showing the teachers I work with that everyone learns in their own way. And anyone can learn. And it is this perspective that I bring to Bora Aprender and to all Bora products...
